+++ VOX TRANSMISSION FROM THE CRIMSON SUNS BATTLE BARGE ETA CARINAE'S CONFLAGRATION +++
Report from Brother Curator Justinian Aurigae
Chapter Master Aldebaran, I bring you word of our success in our operation supporting the Red Scorpions on the Station at Grief. Sevrin Loth successfully retrieved the sanctified body of his fallen Chapter Master, Verant Ortys, from the clutches of Lugft Huron's treacherous Guardsmen. Though our enemies fought desperately, they were no match for Sword Aurigae's lightning fast raid on the station in the midst of the battle. This engagement played to all of the strengths of the Crimson Suns and our dedication to the discipline of fighting ship-to-ship.
The battle began with the Secessionists in control of the Grand Vault where Huron had lately dispatched Chapter Master Ortys in his cowardly betrayal under sign of truce. Traitor Guardsmen occupied the northeastern quadrant of the Vault with four Veteran Trooper squads and a cadre of Traitor Commanders near the Vault's Observation Tower. My forces advanced as quickly as we dared in the darkness, using several cargo containers and loading barriers as cover. With me stood Scout Lance Algeidi, Tactical Lance Fomalhaut, Vanguard Lance Draconis, and the Venerable Brothers Tacitus Virginis and Sallust Cygnus, the main element of Sword Aurigae.
The Traitors fired rather effectively from their positions, picking my units out of the dark with glare from their plasma and las fire. Brothers Sarvus Fomalhaut and Titus Fomalhaut fell in that initial flurry of energy weapons, but they would soon be avenged.
My brotehrs and I advanced under covering fire from Brother Oberon Fomalhaut's Heavy Bolter from a position on the surrounding catwalk. Vanguard Brother Sergeant Erasmus Draconis urged me to advance, but I understood that to do so would imperil our most potent weapons, and I held our bravest troops behind a strategically positioned cargo canister that Sevrin Loth could advance and claim the body of his Master without fear that his retreat be covered. Tacitus and Sallust Advanced, blasting fire into the enemy ranks, killing several of the enemy, while Lance Fomalhaut moved into a firing position under Brother Sergeant Baudus Fomalhaut and sent several of the Traitors into the hells of Chaos with bolter and plasma fire. With the darkness and smoke, Brother Sergeant Aptus Algiede was unable to provide a target for his scouts to strike.
Rallying under their dark masters, the enemy moved two fresh Stormtrooper squads into position on the flanks, with one unit moving in behind Lance Algiede and the other emerging from the Western entry to threaten Venerable Tacitus. Melta Fire destroyed Tacitus' Close Combat Arm, and shook him to the core, angering the Elder Brother. Venerable Sallust took a great torrent of fire as well, but shrugged it off with his usual pithy aplomb. Brother Decimus Algiede fell to a Melta shot that pierced his breast, but the Scouts were otherwise unharmed.
I shouted forth into my Vox and around me the Brothers of Vanguard Lance Draconis surged forth into the maw of battle. Brother Oberon's Heavy Bolter rang out, mowing down more of the traitors while the enraged Tacitus closed on the Stormtroopers to exact a measure of flesh for their petty attack. Sergeant Baudus and his companions leapt forward to fire into the enemy Veterans again, harrying their flanks, and Brother Aptus sent an accurate sniper shot into the face of the Stormtroopers threatening his men, catching one of the slower Traitors before he could get into cover.
Hoping to turn the tide of our righteous onslaught, the Traitors poured shot after shot into our Venerable Brotehrs, immobilizing Sallust and silencing Tacitus' Lascannons, to his further fury. Vanguard Brother Taurus Draconis fell to plasma fire, but the Vangard would not be stopped. Brothers Raucus Fomalhaut and Polis Algiede fell to enemy fire, but their sacrifice bought Chief Librarian Sevrin Loth time to grab his Master.
We counter attacked, and the Traitors could not hope to stand against our onslaught. Venerable Brother Tacitus charged forward and began ripping the Storm Troopers to shreds, Brother Oberon continued to provide suppressing fire as dictated by the Codex Astartes, and Brother Sergeant Baudus Fomalhaut and his companions moved forward to assault the easternmost Veteran Squad while the Scouts of of Lance Algiede washed the Stormtroopers in a rain of sniper fire, pinning them, and Venerable Sallust meted out his vengeance with Assault Cannon fire and Stormbolter shells. The Vanguard Lance, our enemies evaporating before we could engage them provided a fearsome exclamation point on our supremacy on the left flank.
The Traitors, their lines collapsing, attempted to regroup and consolidate. These efforts proved fruitless, as they managed only to wound Brother Faustus Fomalhaut. A lucky hit on the station had set the Hull to Quaking beneath our feet, rendering movement difficult for the already panicky Guard.
We struck back hard and sent most of the Traitors screaming into the bowels of this accursed station with the bodies of the comrades lying in heaps around us on the shuddering deck, and allowing Sevrin to escape to our Cestus Assault Ram, where he returned, with the rest of Sword Aurigae, to our command ship.
While the battle raged through the space around Grief, we consoled our desolate brother of the Red Scorpions on his loss. Sevrin Loth feels the pain of the death of Chapter Master Ortys deeply, and it may be some time before the fury of vengeance is cooled in his breast.
I understand that Brother Curator Ignatius Ushakaron and Sword Ushakaron have been dispatched to Sagan to take part in routing Lugft Huron's forces there. I request leave to take the Eta Carinae's Conflagration to that system and add the might of Sword Aurigae to the fight that Sagan may breathe freely in the Emperor's peace and be liberated from the Heretical grip of the traitor Huron.
