Ding Dong, Caw-Blade is dead!!!
I personally feel this is the right decision, and this is coming from a guy who just spent a lot of time and resources building a deck around Stoneforge Mystic.
The deck was degenerate and almost impossible to beat. I heard too many players utter the phrase, "does it beat Caw-Blade", without asking, "is it good" or is it "fun to play".
What does this mean? All sorts of decks will be built without fear of dreaded Stoneforge-Jace combo. I think U/W Control becomes and real threat as does U/B Control (the latter maybe even a little better).
I think mid-range becomes a viable strategy again, coupling powerful removal with strong creatures for the win.
I think Blue Engine has a chance...
I think B/R Vampires just got better, now that I don't have to mainboard Manic Vandal just to deal with Swords and Batterskulls.
I think Gideon Jura just claimed the top spot as best Plainswalker....
I think its time to start brewing and have fun again!
Personally, I've been working on a few decks, even playing with control (gasp!). White Weenies, Vampires, Red Deck Wins, U/R/W Control...all of those are options.
