My desire is to build a single deck that I can simply modify to play either Legacy or Modern format. I also wanted to play some sort of artifact deck with Tezzeret. I was originally building combo with Forgemasters and Transmuters, but that is just not my style.
Instead I went with aggro...
Here's the Legacy deck for starters:
Creatures [25]
4 Memnite
4 Ornithopter
4 Master of Etherium
4 Signal Pest
4 Frogmite
3 Myr Enforcer
2 Etched Champion
Artifacts [11]
4 Springleaf Drum
3 Mox Opal
4 Cranial Plating
Spells [4]
Thoughtcast
Planeswalker [4]
Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
Lands [16]
4 Blinkmoth Nexus
4 Darksteel Citadel
4 Seat of the Synod
4 Vault of Whispers
This deck can win many different ways, but Etherium Sculptor is like my Tarmogoyf. Cranial Plating is tough to deal with, and on an Etched Champion is usually a 1 turn clock. Tezzeret can win one turn after landing on the battlefield.
Here's the same concept, modified for Modern:
Creatures [25]
4 Memnite
4 Ornithopter
4 Master of Etherium
4 Signal Pest
4 Frogmite
3 Etherium Sculptor
2 Etched Champion
Artifacts [11]
4 Springleaf Drum
4 Cranial Plating
3 Mox Opal
Spells [4]
4 Thoughtcast
Planeswalkers [4]
4 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
Lands [16]
4 Blinkmoth Nexus
4 Darksteel Citadel
4 Swamp
4 Island
So, the main difference is removing Myr Enforcer in favor of Etherium Sculptor. I felt the 7 CMC on the Enforcer would be harder to hit early game without the benefit of all the artifact lands. Etherium Sculptor allows me to play Springleaf Drums for free, Plating for 1, etc. He fits in nicely as a roleplayer in the deck.
Other than that, the win-cons are pretty much the same. This deck in solitiare is capable of turn 3 wins. Master of Etherium matches up nicely, as stated earlier, against Tarmogoyf. He can be kept back to block while Ornithopter or Signal Pest flies into the enemy with a Cranial Plating.
Thoughtcast is essential in this type of deck since it runs out of steam pretty quickly. Dumping your entire hand turn 1 is completely possible, Drawing 2 extra cards for usually one blue is very good.
Please let me know what you think. I believe there is some potential here.
