Super Bowl Sunday and still we had enough players for a really competitive constructed tournament. Anja showed up playing Genesis Elves, Manny with U/W Control, Aaron playing Esper Control, Ryan with Mill Deck Wins, Stephen with Goblins, Scott with Shape Anew, Sal playing Eldrazi Ramp, and yours truly, Justin, playing B/R Vampires.
In third place, Manny, with his consistent U/W Control deck. The second round featured a tough loss to Sal's Eldrazi Ramp deck. I know Emrakul made at least one appearance during that match; however, Manny recovered in the third round and beat Ryan's Mill deck to solidify a spot in the top 3.
In second place, Sal, with his home brew Eldrazi Ramp deck. I like the addition of Garruk Wildespeaker in this deck as well as some other surprises, like BoP. Sal played Scott's nasty Shape Anew deck in round 1, which featured Blightsteel Colossus.
And in first place...yours truly, playing B/R Vampires ;D. Round one saw the most spirited action against Stephen's VERY fast goblin deck. After losing the first game, some sideboard cards came in and made a huge difference. Arc Trail won game two with timely removal and Demon of Death's Gate made a third round appearance in game three, sealing up the match.
I general, the quality of the decks are strong and any given week any deck can win based on the match-ups. In addition, I think the players are getting stronger, making better moves and better matches overall. We even had a few spectators today, watching the games progress.
Thanks to everyone who participated and keep tweaking those decks.
See you next weekend!
