I'm turning over to the dark side of the force and building CawBlade. After solitaire testing against some decks, I can say one thing. The deck is a LOT of fun to play. Very interactive and intuitive. It actually suits my style.
Anyone that knows me, knows I play a bit more on the aggressive side, so I knew I wanted to up my creature count a bit. My creature suite looks like this:
4 Squadron Hawk
3 Emeria Angel
1 Consecrated Sphinx
1 Sun Titan
I want to play some counter spells, obviously. I think Spell Pierce is still a good card, especially in the mirror match. Here's my counter suite:
4 Mana Leak
2 Spell Pierce
White has a plethora of removal options, so I will definitely play some cards gain the tempo advantage. Dismember is still good, so I will include a few copies. Here is the removal suite:
2 Dismember
1 Oblivion Ring
1 Into the Roil
1 Day of Judgment
For other spells and planeswalkers, I went some obvious choices and a surprise card. Any deck like this needs to play at least four cantrips, like Preordain.
4 Preordain
2 Gideon Jura
2 Timely Reinforcements
1 Elspeth Tirel
1 Jace Beleren
The swords...everyone wants to play 2-3 copies of Sword of Feast and Famine. I agree, this sword is stupid in control decks, but I want to play more aggressively and be solid in the mirror. That's why I want to play Sword of War and Peace. It flies past hawks and blocks all day. Here is my blade suite:
2 Sword of War and Peace
1 Sword of Feast and Famine
The lands are actually pretty exciting and well thought out. Different versions of the deck play 26 or 27 lands respectively. I want to play more, because I am playing three copies of Emeria Angel. I also want to include some fetch lands to help thin my deck and get some value out of Emeria Angel. You play her turn 5, drop and fetch, sac and make two 1/1 birds. That's 5 power flying for 4 mana with Spell Pierce or Preordain mana still open. Not bad.
4 Celestial Colonnade
4 Seachrome Coast
4 Glacial Fortress
4 Tectonic Edge
3 Scalding Tarn
2 Inkmoth Nexus
1 Marsh Flats
3 Island
2 Plains
The sideboard is in development, but pretty solid against most matchups. Celestial Purge is a must and I want 1 more Timely Reinforcements agaist aggro and red deck.
For artifact hate I'm going to opt for Kor Sanctifiers. They are versatile and give me a 2/3 body to carry a sword if needed. They also take down Tempered Steel or Gravitational Shift which is being played in some U/B control decks.
Four mainboard Tectonic Edges are pretty good against Valakut, but not enough. I want to play a few copies of Spreading Seas and Flashfreezes to help in that match. Spreading Seas is also good against Vampires as a bonus.
One more Jace Beleren, Oblivion Ring and Day of Judgment round out the board. Here it is:
3 Celestial Purge
3 Kor Sanctifiers
3 Flashfreeze
2 Spreading Seas
1 Day of Judgment
1 Oblivion Ring
1 Jace Beleren
1 Timely Reinforcements
I will testing this soon at the store to see how it interacts with the other top decks.
